With my CryptoPunk self-portrait, I wanted to do something that was a bit closer to home for me. So, I decided to make a simple portrait of my face with a console controller underneath. I didn’t really know what to do with the face of the self-portrait, so I just decided to do something really simple, mainly just putting an outline of my head, and putting in color that resembled my eye’s, hair, mouth and skin. But I knew I wanted to put something else in besides my face and head. And since I’m into Video Games and am going to go into that field for a career, I decided to put in a simple PS4 controller.
Since it’s a self-portrait of myself, I’m unsure if it will stand up against all of the similar NFT’s. But I tried to make it not look too much like myself, so that it went up for sale on a NFT site, more people than myself could connect with it in some way. But who knows. With all of the hype that’s circling around NFT’s right now, piece like this may go for a lot more then I am and probably would be expecting.
The only thing that I’m worried about, if I put it on a NFT selling site, we briefly talked about in class on Tuesday. How some people would take someone else’s work and try to pass it off as their own. I didn’t put a whole lot of time into making this self-portrait, so it would not be that bad for me, but I would not be extremely happy if someone took this and claimed it was their own work. I am sure people who make a living off of selling and making these NFT’s, they would try to do as much as they could to protect their work before it got sold. But since this is my first piece of NFT work, it would not be the end of the world for me. But if I tried to do more in this world, I’d try to protect my work until it was sold.
